Established in July 2018, afrOcan is a unique cultural movement established out of the need to create a community for dancers and performance artists who embrace and elevate Nigerian Art through street dance, choreography, music, Film and lifestyle.

With a firm grounding in the propagation of african culture in the Afro culture and a keen eye on the future, Afrocan represents a new wave of consciousness on the African dance scene and creative industry as a whole where dance is not just for entertainment, but for identity, education,story telling and activism.

At its core, Afrocan is a response to global spread of African culture and through dance this community is putting nigeria’s story at the fore front.

With a vision to “build a stronghold with dance that paints a vivid picture of Africa across the globe,” Afrocan is charting a course that is as local as it is global. It acknowledges that Africa’s dance traditions—rich in rhythm, narrative, and innovation—are among the continent’s most powerful cultural exports. Through strategic action, Afrocan aims to develop, document, and share these traditions in ways that both preserve their essence and propel them into new spaces of relevance and influence.

Afrocan operates as a tight-knit committee made up of five board members: Yemi Osokoya (Skimaru), Amaechina David (Snipes), Ambrose Idemudia (Tjark), and Akeredolu Oreoluwa (Kredol) Obiajulu Ozegbe (Valu). This leadership reflects the collaborative spirit of the initiative, each member contributing their own style, skills, and commitment to building the movement.
